OBE SYSTEM TUTORIAL
Understanding PEO, PLO and CLO
Executive Overview
The three outcome levels explained in plain language, and how they relate to each other.
The outcome hierarchy
PEO (Program Education Objective) — the career and professional achievements a graduate is expected to reach a few years after graduating.
PLO (Program Learning Outcome) — the knowledge and skills a graduate must demonstrate at the time of graduation. PLOs map to PEOs.
CLO (Course Learning Outcome) — what a specific course teaches. CLOs map to PLOs, creating a chain from a single question in an exam up to the program mission.
Why it matters
When students attempt activities in a course, their scores flow into CLO attainment, which rolls up to PLO and PEO attainment for accreditation reporting.
